IARC

Centre International De Recherche sur le Cancer

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization. The objective of IARC is to promote international collaboration in cancer research. The Agency is interdisciplinary, bringing together skills in epidemiology, laboratory sciences, and biostatistics to identify the causes of cancer so that preventive measures may be adopted and the burden of disease and associated suffering reduced.

Role in the project

IARC participates with tasks in several Work Packages:

  • WP2, ‘Micronutrient status in Europe – Biomarker data collection and analysis’
  • WP5 ‘The economic cost of micronutrient deficiencies and prevention in Europe’
  • WP7 ‘Micronutrient bioavailability and metabolism, role of the gut microbiome, and novel biomarkers for micronutrient status’.

In the WP7 IARC co-leads the task 7.4 that aims for the identification of novel metabolomic markers of calcium nutritional status.
